Up for consideration is this beautiful Raku Pottery Elephant Figurine/Sculpture made by “African Express” in 1995. It stands 8 1/4” inches tall and 13” inches in length. The material used is ceramic pottery, specifically Raku-fired clay and hand-crafted in South Africa. The unique crackled and iridescent glaze patterns are a result of removing the piece from a hot kiln (around 950 C) and placing it in a bed of smoldering material, which starves the glaze of oxygen and creates distinct colors and patterns. Elephant figurines with their trunks up, like this one, are traditionally believed to attract good fortune, positive energy, and blessings.
